I mostly use this for copying and while it does some amazing things, has a huge platen, etc. which I really wanted, it is sooooo slow. That's my only complaint. Otherwise, buy it!!

I work in the architectural field and use 11X17 paper size on a regular basis. This printer handles it well. B&W prints looks very close to laser quality. It configures well with Autocad and has small margins so you can maximize the paper size and your dwgs. border doesn't get cut off (It has a "borderless" option also but I haven't tried that, I assume that's for pictures so you can print right to the edge of the paper). The software that came with it also includes a .pdf writer called Paperport SE. Now I can print directly from Autocad to a .pdf file without having to buy more software. This works with MS word and other programs as well. It will also print to file as JPEG's and a couple other formats. The scanner will scan a full 11x17 size. Wireless config. with my laptop was easy and works well.
On the con side - Color prints are poor, even on the highest setting, they looked washed out and dull. I would not recommend this for a photo printer, my $25 HP produces better quality than this one. How can the B&W quality be so good and the color so bad? One of the reviews here said they had to get up and swap paper trays for 11x17? They must have updated the software to fix that. You do however, have to manually select tray 2 in your printer setup, it will not autoselect 11x17. Also, it would be nice if it came with a USB cable. Overall this is a pretty decent printer for the price.

I have not tried the fax or scan yet, so do not read on if that is your interest.
Printing from plain paper works well.
The problem is printing business cards, greeting cards and heavier, glossy paper for brochures.
The paper jams constantly and the printer picks up more than one sheet all the time.
Another drawback is the fact that only the plain paper option is available from the bottom tray.
It also appears to be going through ink faster than I thought it would.
I am disappointed to say the least.

I have had this for a couple months now and I really have to say that I love it. I have not seen any other large format copier/scanner that comes close in price and the quality is great. I love the document feeder! I don't have to stand there scanning one page at a time. I can load 50 pages and press scan and walk away. When I come back they are all done. The paperport program has a few quirks that drove me crazy until I figured it out though. For instance, if you import items as jpeg or pdf many of the editing functions don't work. You need to import scanned images as paperport files, edit them, then export as jpeg. However most of the time when I am just scanning I like to use Google's free picasa program to import all the pages. Picasa has a very easy to use crop function and a nice grid oriented straighten function which are the two I use the most often.

Another quirk that took me some time to figure out on the printer itself is that tray #1 has all the paper settings (photo quality, transparencies etc) but tray #2 only does plain paper printing so when I had the ledger size paper in tray 2 and tried to do photo quality it wouldn't let me. It turns out I just had to switch the paper because for my purposes everyday printing is usually letter size so I put that in tray 2 and the ledger 11X17 size in tray one. Also for ledger printing you may have to go in and change your maximum scan size manually (Go to Start > All Programs > Brother > XXX-XXXX (Where XXXXXXX is your model name) > Scanner Settings >Scanner Utility. Then make sure that A3/Ledger is selected for "Maximum Scanning Size". Click OK.

The printer is huge though and takes up a bit of space but I would rather have the 2 paper trays and the document feeder than a really compact scanner so for me it's a worthy tradeoff.
